One of our favorite things about living in Brentwood and Williamson County is that there is always something new happening close to home. Some weekends that means a big festival or concert. Other weekends, it’s coffee and flowers on a farm, a drive through Leiper’s Fork or finding a new restaurant before everyone else does.
This week has a little bit of everything.
Blooms & Brews at Young Harvest Farm
If a quiet morning with coffee and fresh flowers sounds good right about now, Blooms & Brews at Young Harvest Farm in Arrington might be exactly what you need.
On September 18 from 9 to 11 a.m., guests can grab a hot or iced coffee, wander the flower fields and cut their own blooms before creating a bouquet to take home.
The $35 ticket includes the flowers, bouquet supplies and coffee, and there is intentionally no packed schedule. Come when you want, stay awhile and enjoy the farm.
Honestly, this feels like a very good excuse to ignore your to-do list for two hours.
Take the Kids to FairyTails Petting Farm
If your kids would lose their minds over meeting a sloth or kangaroo, add FairyTails Petting Farm in Columbia to your list.
The USDA and TWRA licensed farm opens to visitors on prescheduled dates and offers up-close encounters with a variety of animals. Tours require advance tickets, which are currently $29 for adults and $17 for children.
It’s a little drive south of Franklin and Brentwood, but definitely falls into the category of “the kids will talk about this all week.”
Bluebird on the Mountain at Dyer Observatory
This one is such a Brentwood gem.
Bluebird on the Mountain returns September 19 at 7 p.m. at Vanderbilt’s Dyer Observatory, pairing the songwriter experience Nashville is known for with one of the prettiest settings in Brentwood.
Bring lawn chairs or a blanket, pack a picnic and settle in on the observatory grounds for an evening of live music and stories from acclaimed singer-songwriters.
And the night does not necessarily end when the music does. If the weather cooperates, guests can stick around afterward for complimentary telescope viewing.
One ticket admits one vehicle with up to eight guests, so this would make a great friends’ night, date night or low-key family outing.
Spend Sunday on the Leiper’s Fork Farmstand Crawl
For a completely different kind of Sunday drive, the Leiper’s Fork Farmstand Crawl takes place September 20 from noon to 5 p.m.
Registered guests receive a map and itinerary and can make their way through the countryside at their own pace, stopping at participating farmstands and meeting the local farmers, bakers and makers behind them.
The event is free, which makes this an especially easy one to add to the weekend.
Grab a coffee, roll the windows down and make an afternoon of it.
KidStrong Is Coming to Franklin
Franklin families are getting a new option for active kids this fall.
KidStrong Franklin is expected to open in November at 420 Cool Springs Blvd., Suite 110, and the local owners are two names you might recognize: Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson East and her husband, former NFL player Andrew East.
KidStrong is designed for children from crawling age through 11, but it is more than a traditional kids gym. Its 45-minute coach-led classes combine movement and obstacle-style activities with problem-solving, teamwork and character development.
The idea is to work on a strong body, strong mind and strong character at the same time.
For Franklin and Brentwood parents constantly looking for activities that let kids burn some energy while actually learning something, this one will be interesting to watch.
Lupo Notte Is Now Open in Green Hills
And because adults deserve something new too, there is a brand-new Italian restaurant just up the road from Brentwood.
Lupo Notte officially opened September 16 at Vertis Green Hills, bringing handmade pasta, Neapolitan-style pizza, seafood, locally sourced ingredients and an Italian-inspired cocktail and wine program to the neighborhood.
The space itself sounds just as appealing as the menu. Think warm lighting, European bistro influence, an open kitchen, chef’s counter, bar and outdoor patios.
Lupo Notte is currently open for dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with lunch service planned for later this fall.
Translation: we may have found your next date-night reservation.
Why We Love Calling Brentwood and Williamson County Home
The homes matter, of course, but what really makes a community special is everything surrounding them.
It’s having a concert under the stars ten minutes from home. It’s driving out to Leiper’s Fork on a Sunday afternoon. It’s discovering a new local restaurant, taking the kids somewhere they have never been or spending a morning picking flowers in Arrington.
Those are the little things that make living in Brentwood, Franklin and Williamson County, Tennessee feel like home.
